Protect your deck against moisture, wear, and slipping
Just installed a new deck, or do you already have a beautiful wooden deck? It is recommended to protect the wood against moisture, dirt, and mold. Deck oil helps maintain the wood’s color and extends its lifespan. In addition, it is also possible to apply an anti-slip layer, making slipping on the smooth wood a thing of the past.
Deck oil protects naturally
Osmo Deck Oil is made from natural, plant-based oils and waxes, such as thistle oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, and carnauba wax. These ingredients, combined with organic pigments, provide long-lasting protection for your wooden deck. It protects against UV radiation, helping the wood gray more slowly. The oil also shields the wood from moisture caused by rain and snow. Water beads on the surface and does not penetrate the deck, helping to protect the wood from algae and mold.
Benefits of Terrace Oil
- Protects against UV radiation, water, and dirt
- Easy to refresh; no sanding or primer needed
- High coverage: 1 L treats up to 24 m²
- Ideal for protecting wooden terraces, decks, fences, and garden furniture
- Made from 100% natural oils and waxes
Supplies for applying Deck Oil
Hardwood Deck Oil
The advantage of Osmo Deck Stain is that it can be applied to all wooden decks. Whether the wood is soft or hard, the oil can be used on any deck. Thermally treated wood can also be oiled with Osmo. Common wood types for decks include: Bangkirai, Douglas, Spruce, Red Cedar, Ipé, Massaranduba, Garapa, Mukulungu, and Padouk.
Bangkirai Deck Oil

Deck Oil Colors
Oiling a deck
- Stir the deck oil thoroughly for 2 minutes. After opening the can, the oils and color pigments may have separated. Always test a small area first to check if the result meets your expectations.
- Apply the first layer of deck oil using a brush or floor brush on new or sanded wood. Note: For hardwood and resin-rich wood types, allow time for the oil to fully penetrate.
- Mistakes made during application can be corrected within 15 minutes while the surface is still wet. This includes roller marks or brush hairs.
- Drying time for the first layer is approximately 12 hours (at 23°C and 50% relative humidity). At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying may take longer. Ensure proper ventilation at all times. Do not apply during bad weather or rain.
- Apply the second layer of deck oil in the same manner as the first layer.
- Drying takes about 12 hours; see step 4.
Anti-slip deck boards
Deck boards can become very slippery due to moisture and algae. Anti-Slip Oil prevents slipping and falling on slick decks. This oil increases traction by using organic compounds in the product, and you’ll notice a real difference after treatment. In addition, the Anti-Slip layer protects and extends the lifespan of the pigmented Deck Oil layer. The Anti-Slip layer should always be applied over a standard deck oil to create the best anti-slip surface.
Benefits of Anti-Slip Deck Oil
- Provides anti-slip properties
- Extends the durability of the pigmented oil by protecting against weather conditions
- Top layer is water-repellent and UV-resistant
- Made entirely from natural ingredients
Gray decking
Do you have a deck that has grayed? This happens when wood is exposed to UV radiation combined with moisture. Untreated wood naturally grays over time. Treating your deck with deck oil slows down the graying process. By oiling your deck every 3 to 6 years, you can prevent graying completely.
Looking for a product to remove existing gray? Osmo Power-Gel Wood Brightener is the right choice. This gel is easy to apply, allowing you to scrub away the gray layer. After de-graying, the wood can be treated with Osmo Deck Oil.
