Supplies for applying the furniture oil
Color examples
The furniture oil is available in 7 different finishes. The examples are made on oak; on other types of wood, the finishes may look different. The 3028 and 3058 are colorless and color the wood as if it were wet. The 3028 dries to a satin matte finish, and the 3058 dries to a matte finish.
Furniture Oil Natural
In combination with one of the colorless variants (3028 Satin Matte or 3058 Matte), the Osmo 3068 Furniture Oil Natural creates a virtually untreated look. The product contains a small amount of white pigment, ensuring that light wood types do not darken, as happens with the colorless variants. The more layers of the 3068 are applied, the lighter/whiter the color of the wood becomes.
Furniture Oil Black
Osmo Decorwas creativ Black can be used to treat furniture to black. With this product, both a black wash effect and a solid black treatment can be created. With a wash effect, the product colors the wood grain, which is accentuated using this method. To create a wash effect, the Decor Wax must be buffed. You can find the exact instructions for this on the product page. To color the wood with a solid finish, the Decor Wax must be rolled. This ensures that the wood is colored a solid black.
Furniture oil grey wash
For a grey wash, a grey variant of the Decor Wax must be buffed onto the wood. The 3119 Silk Grey and the 3118 Granite Grey are the grey colors of the Decor Wax. For a uniform grey graphite color, you can use TopOil 3039 Graphite.
Furniture oil white
The 3037 White contains more white pigments than the 3068 Natural and therefore colors the wood whiter. The white furniture oil colors the wood a transparent white color. Are you looking for an opaque white color? Then Decorwas Creativ 3186 Matte White or 3188 Snow is the right product.
Furniture oil for oak
Osmo TopOil for furniture is also highly suitable for treating oak wood. Think of oak tables and oak countertops. To preserve the lightly sanded look of oak, Osmo 3068 Natural is the right product. This product contains a small amount of white pigment and ensures that the wood does not darken. As a result, the oak wood remains light in color. You can also treat oak with other TopOil variants, such as 3038 Terra; in this case, the oak wood turns browner and darker. In addition to oak, the furniture oil can also be applied to other softwoods such as beech, spruce, birch, and ash.
Mango & Acacia Furniture Oil
For this wood type, Furniture Oil 3028 Silk Matte is the right product. This colors the wood as if it has been wetted. Variants containing white pigment, such as 3037 White and 3068 Natural, can result in a white haze on these wood types. Therefore, only the 3028 satin finish is actually suitable for treating the wood. Would you like to color the wood even darker than it turns when wet? Then TopOil 3061 Acacia or 3038 Terra is the right variant.
Furniture Oil Walnut & Teak
For walnut wood, such as teak, and teak, it can also only be treated with the 3028 colorless satin finish. The matte variant (3058) can cause the wood to turn white due to the matte sheen.
For tropical hardwoods such as Wenge, Jatoba, and Meranthi, we recommend Osmo Clear Wax. This product has been specially developed for tropical hardwoods.
Apply furniture oil
The Furniture Oil can be applied in two ways. Below, we describe the two different methods; a video demonstrating how to apply the furniture oil can also be found below.
Method 1: Polishing application
1. Shake the product well for 2 minutes. After opening the can, the Oil and Wax are separated.
2. Apply the first layer of TopOil to the new or sanded wood using a white pad or brush, and then polish it out with a white pad. Do this along the grain of the wood.
3. Within 20 minutes, dry-buff the TopOil with the fleece pad or easy pad polishing cloths. Do this along the grain of the wood as well. This ensures that not too much product is applied.
4. Mistakes made during application can be corrected on the wet surface up to 30 minutes after application. Examples include roller marks or brush hairs. 5. The drying of the first coat takes approximately 8-10 hours (at 23 degrees and 50% relative humidity). At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying takes longer. Good ventilation must be ensured at all times. Therefore, ensure that windows and doors are open.
6. Apply the second, third, and even fourth coat in the same way as the first coat.
7. TopOil takes approximately 8-10 hours to dry.
If you are going to polish the surface, it is important to apply 3 to 4 coats. This is to adequately protect the surface against moisture, etc.
Method 2. Apply by rolling or brushing
1. Shake the product well for 2 minutes. After opening the can, the Oil and Wax have separated.
2. Apply the first coat of TopOil with a roller or brush to the new or sanded wood. 3. Errors that occurred during application can be corrected on the wet surface up to 30 minutes after application. Examples include roller marks or brush hairs.
4. The drying time for the first coat is approximately 8-10 hours (at 23 degrees and 50% relative humidity). Drying takes longer at lower temperatures or higher humidity. Good ventilation must be ensured at all times. Therefore, ensure that windows and doors are open.
5. Apply the second coat in the same way as in point 2. If a colored TopOil was chosen for the first coat, it is recommended to finish the second coat with a colorless variant (3028 or 3058).
6. The drying time for the TopOil is approximately 8-10 hours.
