Give your table an untreated look in 4 steps.
A light wooden table can quickly appear darker after treatment, whereas you want to preserve its natural look. With Osmo TopOil by Osmo, you create an untreated effect that keeps the wood light while simultaneously protecting it against daily use.

How do you preserve a light wooden table?
Do you want your light wood table to retain its natural color and appearance? Then choose an untreated effect. With the ‘untreated effect’ look, we aim to preserve the natural color of the wood as it is after sanding. This effect is particularly suitable for light wood types such as oak, spruce, pine, etc. We do not recommend this treatment for (tropical) hardwoods or dark wood types such as walnut.
Why does a colorless or transparent treatment give the wood a different color?
Every treatment gives a table a different look. Whether it is oil, lacquer, or Osmo, the wood will acquire a different appearance. Colorless or transparent products also cause the wood to change its look. The base of the product, such as oil or water, soaks into the wood and often gives light wood types a somewhat yellowish appearance. The same effect occurs when you wet it with a cloth, in other words, a (permanent) wet look.
Keeping light wood light
How do you keep the wood light? If you have an untreated or freshly sanded table and want to go for the untreated look, do a test first!
We recommend using Osmo TopOil to treat your table. To keep the table light, you need two variants. The first variant you apply is Osmo TopOil Natural (3068); subsequently, you apply Osmo TopOil colorless (silk-matte or matte) over it.

How do you create an untreated effect?
We recommend applying 2 coats of Osmo TopOil ‘Natural’ first, followed by applying 2 coats of the Osmo TopOil Colorless variant. Would you prefer to roll? Then use the Osmo Microfiber Roller to apply 1 coat of TopOil Natural and then 1 coat of TopOil Colorless.
Be well prepared:
Work only on an untreated surface.
Ensure that the final sanding pass is no coarser or finer than grit 120 (to 150). This is important for the ‘even’ absorption of the product.
Use lint-free cloths or pads to apply and buff out the product.
1 Shake well
Start with the TopOil Natural. Ensure the can is shaken well before use. You do this by shaking it for 2 minutes before use. Then pour the TopOil into a container.
2 Application
Pour the TopOil into a container and then apply it very thinly with the white pad or cloth. If you are rolling it, use a small (10cm) microfiber roller and roll the TopOil Natural very thinly over the surface.
3 Polishing
(Optional) When polishing, remove the excess product within 20 minutes using a fleece pad or a clean, lint-free cloth.
4 Letting dry
Now allow this layer to dry thoroughly. Drying time is a minimum of 6 to 12 hours when polishing and 24 hours when rolled, in a well-ventilated area, at a minimum temperature of 10-15 degrees.
5 Repeat
Repeat the above 4 steps once more for the TopOil Natural. You will see a light white layer on the wood. Applying the TopOil Colorless will bring out the wood color more.
6 Colorless finish
Once 2 coats of TopOil 3068 Natural have been applied and have dried thoroughly, apply the Colorless TopOil (3028 or 3058) following the same steps. To do this, read steps 1 through 4 again.
