Olympic Stain -> Osmo Country House Paint
Olympic Stain Oil is no longer available. Because a lot of exterior wood has been treated with this product, we show you the best replacement in this blog. Olympic Stain Oil is an opaque, linseed oil-based product. The product offers protection against UV rays, is water-repellent, regulates moisture, and does not peel. Moreover, the oil is very easy to apply with a brush or roller.
Advantages Country house paint

Alternative to Olympic stain
The best alternative to Olympic Stain Oil is Osmo Country House Paint. This opaque oil is made from natural vegetable oils (sunflower oil, thistle oil, soybean oil, and linseed oil), organic pigments, and water-repellent additives. Furthermore, the product is benzene-free.
After treatment, the wood color and grain are covered, but the wood structure remains visible. You can therefore still see that it is wood. The Country House Paint is open-pored, which means the wood can continue to breathe; this reduces the expansion and contraction of the wood. Osmo Country House Paint is water-repellent and does not crack, flake, or peel. Another major advantage of Osmo Country House Paint is that it is easy to reapply without sanding. The wood only needs to be cleaned briefly before a new layer can be applied. After drying, the finish is safe for humans, animals, and plants.
History
Olympic Stain was formerly part of Osmo. As a result, the products are very similar, and the quality of both products is very strong. This makes Osmo Landuis Paint the best alternative to Olympic Stain Oil.
Repaint Olympic Stain with Country House Paint
Would you like to repaint wood treated with Olympic Stain using Osmo Country House Paint? You can! Both products are oil-based, meaning adhesion will (almost) never be a problem. However, it is advisable to test this first. We have sample packs available for all our Country House paints. You can request these for free on our website; you only pay the shipping costs. Before treating the surface with Osmo Country House Paint, it is advisable to clean the wood treated with Olympic Stain using Power-Gel. This product removes dirt from the surface and eliminates algae and mold.
Olympic Semi-Transparent Stain
You can also use the Country House Paint to replace the Olympic Semi Transparent Stain. Applying one coat of the Country House Paint will give the same appearance as two coats of the Olympic Semi Transparent Stain. To offer the wood better protection without making it more opaque, you can apply the Natural Oil Stain 701 Matt or the Terrace Oil 007 Silk Matt as a second coat. You can therefore finish the surface either matte or silk matte.
Olympic Stain 716
The Olympic Stain 716 is an opaque orange/brown variant. The Osmo variant that comes closest to the Olympic Stain 716 is the Country House Paint 2310 Red Cedar. This reddish-brown variant is not exactly the same as the Olympic Stain 716, but it is close. Do you want to treat the wood with Osmo? We recommend performing a test first to see if the product gives the desired color result.
