Protect wood against moisture
Untreated wood that comes into contact with moisture will absorb it, and if it is subsequently placed in a dry environment, it will release water. This can cause the wood to shrink and expand. When wood is in prolonged contact, it can stain and develop mold. Additionally, mold can cause wood rot, which you naturally want to prevent at all times. Therefore, we recommend treating all indoor and outdoor wood with Osmo products.

Protect wood from external moisture
Wood placed outdoors, such as fences, decking, and garden furniture, is exposed to all kinds of weather conditions year-round. The combination of rain and sunlight causes the wood to grey very quickly. If untreated wood remains in contact with moisture for a long time, it will develop mold and eventually rot. To protect the wood against this, it must be treated with one of Osmo's outdoor products. In addition to protection against moisture, the variants with color pigment also protect against UV radiation.
Protect vertical wood from moisture
Fences, facades, and beams can be treated with Osmo UV Protection Oil. This product has a UV SPF of 12, providing good protection against UV radiation. The product is available in various colors as well as a colorless version. The colors all look very natural and transparent. Would you prefer an opaque look on vertical wood? Then you can treat the wood with Osmo Landhuisverf. This wood paint creates an opaque effect while the wood grain remains visible. Below you will find a video about treating exterior wood with Osmo UV Protection Oil.
Remove moisture and mold from wood
Is your wood affected by mold? Then you can treat the wood with Osmo Power-Gel. This gel removes mold and algae from the wood. Additionally, this product acts as a wood degreaser. After treatment with Power-Gel, the natural color of the wood reappears, and the graying and mold are removed.

Protect wood from moisture indoors
To protect wooden tables, floors, kitchens, and shelves against moisture and dirt, it is advisable to treat the wood with Osmo Hardwax Oil. This product is made from a combination of natural, plant-based oils and waxes. As a result, the product protects wood in a natural way and is harmless to humans, animals, and plants after drying. Due to the natural ingredients, the product is also highly suitable for treating wooden children's toys. Hardwax Oil is available in various colors, as well as colorless variants. With 1 liter of Hardwax Oil, you can treat up to 24 m², giving the product a high yield. Because Hardwax Oil protects against moisture, it is not a problem if a glass of drink accidentally spills on the wood. The drink will remain on the surface of the wood and will not soak in.
Treating wooden beams against moisture
Wooden beams indoors are also highly suitable for treatment with Osmo products. These beams can also be treated with Osmo Hardwax Oil Original. This colorless product colors the wood as if it has been wetted and offers the wood protection against moisture and dirt. Because moisture can no longer penetrate the wooden beams after treatment, mold will not enter the wood either. Of course, beams can also be treated with colored products, such as Osmo Hardwax Oil Farbig or Osmo Olie-Beits.
Step-by-step plan to treat wood against moisture
- Ensure that old lacquer and paint layers are removed before applying Osmo to the wood.
- Stir the product thoroughly for at least 2 minutes. After opening the can, the oil, wax, and color pigments have separated.
- Always perform a test on the surface first to check if the result has the desired effect.
- Apply the first coat thinly to the new or sanded wood using a microfiber roller or brush. Roll or brush the product out well. Always apply it along the grain of the planks.
- Mistakes made during application can be corrected on the wet surface up to 30 minutes after application. This includes roller marks or brush bristles.
- The drying time for the first coat is approximately 12 hours (at 23 degrees and 50% relative humidity). Read the exact drying time on the product packaging, as this varies by product. Drying takes longer at lower temperatures or higher humidity. Ensure good ventilation at all times. Therefore, make sure windows and doors are open.
- Apply the second finishing coat. Apply this in the same way as the first coat. Drying time is approximately 12 hours; see point 6.
