What is better than scratch-resistant paint for a table?

Have you just bought a new table and want to protect it optimally? Or did you just realize too late that your table wasn't protected as well as you thought? Then it's time for scratch-resistant paint on your table! At Osmo, we do not sell scratch-resistant paint for tables. Furniture paint simply provides insufficient protection for your table. We do, however, sell colored wood treatments that you can use on your table. A wood treatment protects the table many times better than regular paint would. It protects your beloved table for years against moisture, dirt, and wear and tear. This gives your table a radiant look that also lasts for years.

Why no scratch resistant paint?

As we told you earlier, we believe that scratch-resistant paint does not offer enough protection for your table. Moreover, scratch-resistant paint creates a pigmented layer on the wood, causing the beautiful grain of the wood to be lost. A wood treatment, on the other hand, penetrates the wood, ensuring the grain always remains visible. Furthermore, a wood treatment also makes it possible to maintain a virtually untreated appearance. This preserves the beautiful look of the wood while providing optimal protection for the table.

Wear-resistant paint

The purpose of paint is to beautify a surface. While regular paint is undoubtedly highly suitable for this purpose, it offers very little protection to the surface. Consequently, damage and wear will be visible quickly. Especially when dealing with a surface that is frequently used, it is desirable to provide it with good and long-lasting protection. A floor that is often walked on or a table used for daily meals will quickly look worn without sufficient protection.

To extend the debt-free period of your wood surface, Osmo works with a special two-layer system. While many wood treatment brands pursue a one-coat policy, Osmo prefers to recommend two layers. By applying a single layer of colored treatment to the surface and finishing with one to two colorless layers, you ensure an optimal protective layer that is easy to work on when necessary. When the surface begins to show signs of wear after a few years, the top layer can be easily touched up without color differences occurring.

Apply wear-resistant paint

Have you gathered the products you need? Then it is time to start applying the wear-resistant paint. We are happy to provide you with a step-by-step plan for applying the treatment.

  1. Start by removing any existing paint or treatment. The best way to do this is by sanding the surface. Begin with coarse grit sandpaper (for example, grit 40) and work your way up to fine grit (for example, grit 120). This gives the best final result. New and untreated wood does not need to be sanded.
  2. Make the surface completely dust-free after sanding. Ensure that you do not use too much water, as untreated wood cannot tolerate it well.
  3. Open the can and stir the product well. This ensures that all components of the product are thoroughly mixed.
  4. Next, apply a thin layer of the product. Do this with a polishing cloth, a brush, or a roller. Note that the maximum absorption capacity of wood is two coats with a brush or roller and one coat with polish. If you apply more layers, the product will no longer adhere well to the surface and will therefore wear off faster. Allow the first layer of the product to dry for at least 24 hours before applying the second layer.
  5. Once the first layer has completely dried, you can apply the second layer. For optimal protection and an easy-to-maintain surface, it is best to apply a colorless treatment as a topcoat. We recommend applying this product with a brush or roller for the longest possible protection. Allow the topcoat to dry for at least 24 hours as well.
