Treating wooden stairs
Wooden stairs can be treated with many different Osmo products. Below, we explain which products you can use to treat wooden stairs.
Hardwax-Oil Original
Osmo Hardwax-Oil Original Colorless is an oil and wax-based product that creates a protective surface after treatment. The appearance this gives the wooden stairs is very natural, as the product emphasizes the color of the wood. By wetting the untreated or bare sanded stairs, you can get an impression of the appearance after treatment with the Hardwax-Oil. The Hardwax-Oil is suitable for all softwoods such as oak, spruce, beech, and pine.
Osmo Hardwax-Oil Natural 3041
Osmo Hardwax-Oil Effect Natural 3041 creates an untreated look on light woods, such as oak and spruce. When wood is sanded, it often has a lighter color than when it is treated. To preserve this light color, Osmo Hardwax-Oil 3041 was developed. The product contains a small proportion of white pigment. This ensures that the wood does not darken in color when treated with Effect Natural.
Osmo Hardwax-Oil Farbig
Osmo Hardwax-Oil Farbig is ideal for the evenly colored protection of wooden stairs, such as oak, ash, and beech. Hardwax-Oil Farbig is a product based on natural oils and waxes, which provides a protective surface after treatment. After treatment, it is harmless to humans, animals, and plants, just like all other Osmo products.
Osmo Oil Stain
Osmo Oil Stain is ideal for creating a (white) wash effect or an opaque effect. It is also possible to use other colors besides white, such as a grey wash. This Oil Stain can be used as a transparent or intensive color primer.
Staining a hardwood staircase
Hardwood stairs can also be treated with Osmo. Hardwood has the characteristic of being naturally oilier, which can sometimes make it difficult for it to absorb a treatment. For this reason, Osmo has developed a special product for tropical hardwoods: Osmo Clear Wax. This colorless treatment contains a lower proportion of wax, allowing it to adhere better to hardwoods. The colorless Clear Wax deepens the color of the wood. The treatment colors the wood as if it had been wetted.
Painting wooden stairs
In addition to transparent colors, it is also possible to create an opaque look by painting the wooden staircase. Painting a wooden staircase can be done with Osmo Decorwax Creativ. Here, for example, you can choose an opaque black finish or an opaque white finish.

Wooden staircase already treated?
Has your wooden staircase already been treated, but would you like to treat it with Osmo? Then it is advisable to sand the stairs down to bare wood first. Start with grit 40, then grit 80, and finish with grit 120. This ensures that the Osmo is properly absorbed into the wood, as it needs to bond with the wood. After sanding down to bare wood and removing the sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner, the stairs can be treated with an Osmo product of your choice.
