In addition to providing good protection, Osmo table oil offers a product made from natural ingredients. The products are made from waxes and oils consisting of natural products such as sunflower oil and linseed oil. Furthermore, it is benzene-free; benzene is a harmful substance that is bad for health. Because it is made from natural ingredients and the products do not contain chemical dryers, the product requires 8 to 10 hours of drying time after treatment, during which fresh oxygen is desirable. Therefore, windows and doors should be opened as much as possible after a treatment with Osmo.
Oiling table oils – step-by-step instructions
Testing
First, do a test on the wood. This way, you can be sure whether the product adheres sufficiently to the wood and whether the appearance meets your expectations.
Shake
Shake the can of TopOil for about a minute. This ensures that the ingredients and pigments in the product are well distributed.
Apply the first layer of TopOil
Apply a thin layer of TopOil to the wood using a roller or roller holder. Work as much as possible along the entire length of the surface and in the direction of the wood grain. Include the edges of the table as well.
Drying
Let the table dry for at least 12 hours, and even 24 hours if you are using color. Ensure good ventilation and a temperature of approximately 23 degrees during this process.
Second layer
Apply a second coat (see points 3 through 5).
Preparation
Gather everything you need before you begin. Choose an oil that is suitable for your wood type and matches your desired look.
Preparing the table
Before you can start painting, the table must be thoroughly clean and bare. Is the table new? Then you can usually get started immediately. Any old lacquer or paint residue must be removed with a sander. To strip the table completely bare and prepare it optimally for a new coat of oil, we recommend sanding the table in three separate passes. Start with grit 40, continue with grit 80, and finish with grit 120 sandpaper. Always wear gloves, a dust mask, and safety glasses while sanding. After sanding, make sure the table is completely dust-free using the Osmo Easy Pads.
Is the table untreated but very dirty? Then first clean the table with Intensive Cleaner to remove deeply ingrained dirt.

Choose the right oil
You probably oil your table primarily because you appreciate its appearance. However, it is also important that the oil layer provides good protection to the table. To guarantee this, it is important to choose the right oil finish. After all, they are far from all the same. The composition, appearance, and protection can differ from product to product. Although standard oils, based on linseed or sunflower oil for example, offer some protection, they are not formulated to provide the robust protective properties needed for a surface like a table, which is often exposed to intensive daily use.
It is better to choose a hardwax and oil combination, such as Osmo's TopOil. Osmo's TopOil has distinguished itself as a top choice for wooden tables. This oil is specially formulated to penetrate deep into the wood, providing a robust protective layer without altering the natural feel and texture of the wood. With TopOil, the table not only remains well protected but also exudes timeless elegance.
Maintain table
To enjoy your table for as long as possible, we recommend cleaning it daily and maintaining it regularly. Thanks to frequent maintenance, major damage can be prevented. The table can be cleaned using a regular cleaning spray. However, a regular cleaning spray can cause the finish to slowly dry out and break down. Do you want to protect the table for as long as possible? Then I recommend using the Osmo Spray Cleaner. The Osmo cleaning spray contains a small amount of wax. This ensures that the table's finish is nourished and therefore does not break down. As a result, the finish lasts longer and the table remains protected for longer.
Does the table suffer from stains, scratches, or bare spots? Then the table is due for maintenance. To refresh the table, I recommend the Osmo Liquid Maintenance Wax. This liquid polishing wax ensures that wear marks disappear. This makes the table look as good as new again.
