Protect exterior wood without losing the wood look
Exterior wood typically endures a lot. Although wood is a sustainable raw material, it is still wise to protect it. There are various options for finishing and thus protecting wood. Consider, for example, oil, paint, varnish, or a stain. Each of these products is intended to protect the wood against moisture, dirt, and damage, but they are by no means all the same. You are probably looking for a transparent stain because you want to preserve the appearance of the wood, but wish to protect it optimally against the elements. You have come to the right place for a transparent finish for exterior wood. The Osmo Natural Oil Stain offers optimal protection for all kinds of exterior surfaces.

Why Osmo Natural Oil Stain?
To protect exterior wood for a long time, a protective layer must be applied. This can be done with an oil, a lacquer, a paint, or a Natural Oil Stain. The Osmo Natural Oil Stain consists of a unique combination of oil and hardwax. The oil penetrates deep into the wood, providing nourishment and a beautiful appearance. The hardwax hardens within the top fibers of the wood, creating a moisture- and dirt-repellent surface. Because the hardwax creates an open pore structure, the wood is not completely sealed. This allows the wood to continue breathing. Unlike a lacquer or paint, the hardwax-oil combination creates an elastic surface. As a result, the treatment will not chafe or peel due to the wood expanding or contracting.
Transparent stain colourless
Would you like to finish exterior wood with a colorless treatment? Then you can apply Natural Oil Stain 701 Colorless Matt. By treating the wood with a colorless stain, the color of the wood will be deepened. The wood takes on the same color as when it is wet, as it were. A so-called wet look is thus created. The advantage of a colorless stain is that the natural appearance of the wood remains visible, while the wood is also protected and nourished. A colorless stain protects wood against moisture and dirt, but also against drying out due to the sun. The disadvantage of a colorless stain is that it does not protect against graying caused by UV radiation. To protect the wood against this, it is better to apply a stain with pigment.
Transparent stain with an untreated appearance
Would you like to preserve the untreated look of exterior wood? That is certainly possible. By adding a small amount of white pigment to the colorless stain, the wood will continue to look virtually untreated. This way, you enjoy optimal protection without losing the natural appearance of the wood.
To preserve the untreated look as much as possible, we recommend a combination of two products: as the first coat, apply Osmo Natural Oil Stain 701 Colorless Matt with 5-10% of Natural Oil Stain 900 White mixed in. As the second coat, apply the 701 Colorless Matt (without the 900 White) to ensure that the surface can be easily maintained in the future without color differences occurring.
Transparent stain with color
Would you like to add color to your exterior wood? Then you might be looking for a transparent colored stain. By applying a pigmented finish, the wood is protected against graying caused by the sun. Unlike varnish or paint, a colored stain does not cover the wood structure and grain. This preserves the natural look and feel of the wood. Unsure which stain color you like best? Make sure to test it on the wood first using a sample. This allows you to check if the final appearance matches your expectations and if the finish adheres sufficiently to the wood. Can't find the right color? Don't worry, colors from the same product series can be mixed together. This creates an endless variety of colors.
