What is Swedish rebate?

Swedish rebate is also known as overlapping planks. This name derives from the way the planks are assembled. These stackable planks are always placed diagonally on top of each other with some space in between. The profile of Swedish rebate tapers. The plank has a thick side and a thin side. The wood is screwed together along the thick side. You always start overlapping the planks from the bottom and work your way up.

Black Swedish rebate

A popular color for Swedish cladding is black. The black planks create a beautiful appearance in the garden. To color the wood black, Swedish cladding is often spray-painted or dipped black in the factory. This treatment is often applied only once, and this black finish does not last long.

By treating the Swedish cladding with Osmo Country House Paint RAL 9005 Jet Black, the wood retains its beautiful color for 3 to 6 years. RAL 9005 Jet Black is the darkest RAL black available. Furthermore, sanding is not required during renovation, as Osmo Country House Paint cannot peel or crack. The wood can be easily cleaned with Osmo Patio Cleaner and then recoated with a layer of Country House Paint RAL 9005.
Country House Paint Black creates an opaque finish and protects the Swedish cladding against UV radiation. It also offers protection against moisture, making it a very good product for outdoor use.

Black shiplap fence

Black Swedish rebate boards are primarily used for constructing fences. These boards are often used as garden dividers, but can also be used as facade cladding. The boards are easy to assemble, making them a popular product for building fences.

Swedish rebate wood type

Douglas Swedish rebate

Douglas fir is often used to make Swedish rebate. The advantage of Douglas fir is that it is super strong and very durable. Ideal for use in fences and facades.

Black Red Cedar Swedish rebate

Red Cedar wood is also often used to make Swedish rebate. The advantage of Red Cedar is that it is virtually knot-free. This ensures a smooth plank.

Black Spruce Swedish rebate

Spruce is also used to make rebate boards. Spruce is a softer wood species but can also be used perfectly well for rebate boards. Spruce is a cheaper wood species compared to Douglas fir.

Treat Swedish rebate black

Osmo Country House Paint is ideally suited for treating (Black) Swedish rebate boards. The wood must be clean and dry. Osmo Country House Paint is ready to use and does not need to be diluted. In some cases, it may be useful to apply the product before the rebate boards are installed. Old paint layers and colors must be removed first; this can be done by sanding or by using Osmo Paint Remover Gel.

Always perform a test first to check for good adhesion and to see if you like the color. Apply the first coat of RAL 9005 thinly to the fence; this can be done with an Osmo microfiber roller or brush. Apply the product in the direction of the wood grain and the board. Allow the first coat to dry for 10 to 12 hours, ensuring that it is not raining outside during this time. This will negatively affect the result. After drying, you can apply the second thin coat to the fence. Allow this to dry sufficiently as well. When renovating the tongue-and-groove boards, applying one coat of Black Country House Paint is sufficient.
