Making wood water-resistant in the bathroom

For humid environments, it is very important that the wood is properly protected. With Osmo products, this is done in a natural way. All products are based on natural, plant-based ingredients such as sunflower oil, soybean oil, and carnauba wax. Osmo provides a beautiful finish with enhanced protection. In bathrooms, the risk of mold is higher than in, for example, a living room. That is why it is recommended to first treat wood in the bathroom with Osmo Wood Protector. Thanks to the high level of physical wood protection, this product is suitable for wood that is sensitive to mold. In addition to protecting against mold, it is also highly water-repellent. Osmo Wood Protector is a colorless product and enhances the wood as if it were wet, deepening its natural color. The second layer must always be applied with a colorless Hardwax Oil.

Explanation: for adding color, you can apply Hardwax Oil Farbig as the first layer. This allows you to give the wood the desired color. As a second layer, it is recommended to finish the wood with a colorless Hardwax Oil. This ensures that any future wear only affects the colorless layer, while the colored layer remains intact. This way, for example, a wooden bathroom cabinet can be maintained with colorless maintenance products without causing color differences. For an almost untreated look on light wood types such as oak and beech, you can apply Hardwax Oil Effect Natural as the first layer. This product helps the wood retain its light appearance after treatment. All of these products also provide sufficient protection against mold, preventing green or black spots from forming in the wood. Would you prefer an opaque finish? Then use Osmo Decorwax Creativ, which allows you to create a black, white, or gray opaque finish on the wood. Below, we show a few color examples applied on oak. All Osmo products make the wood water-repellent and therefore protect against moisture such as water. After proper treatment, water remains on the surface as droplets and does not penetrate the wood. It does not matter whether you treat the wood with a color first or only use colorless products. All products provide the same level of protection against moisture. This makes Osmo products very suitable for treating wood in bathrooms.

Which wood to use in the bathroom
In a bathroom, you can choose almost any type of wood. Both hardwood or tropical wood and softer wood types can be used. The advantage of softer woods such as oak and birch is that they can be colored to achieve the desired look. Tropical wood types such as Jatoba or Merbau can only be treated with Osmo Clear Wax. This is a colorless treatment designed to protect tropical wood. The product enhances the wood as if it were wet. Clear Wax protects the wood against mold, moisture, and stains.
