Painting without sanding: here's how to do it smartly and quickly

Painting without sanding might sound too good to be true, but with the right preparation and products, it is absolutely achievable. Discover how to easily give wood a new look without dust, sanding, or unnecessary hassle.

What you need for this tutorial;

Do you want to paint wood without sanding? Good news: with the right preparation and the right product, it is perfectly possible. Whether you are refreshing an old cabinet or giving a wooden floor a new color, sanding is not strictly necessary. In this article, you will learn how to paint wood indoors and outdoors without sanding – with tips for proper preparation and suitable products from Osmo.

Osmo Paint Stripper: the solution for painting without sanding

Would you like to paint without sanding, but is there still an old layer of paint or varnish on your wood? Then the Osmo Paint Stripper is exactly what you need. This powerful paint stripper thoroughly removes old paint layers, allowing you to paint immediately afterwards – without the need for a sander.

The Osmo Paint Stripper is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and works on solvent-resistant surfaces such as wood, metal, stone, and concrete. Thanks to its long open time, it can even loosen multiple layers at once.

Why choose Osmo Paint Stripper?

  • Effectively removes old paint, varnish, and stain layers
  • Makes sanding unnecessary during preparation
  • Mild scent, suitable for use on larger surfaces
  • Suitable for furniture, floors, facades, fences, and more

Please note: use the stripper only on wood or other solvent-resistant surfaces. Plastic surfaces (such as kitchen cabinets with melamine or laminate) are not suitable. Always cover these surfaces and any plants or pipes well. Wear suitable protective clothing and safety glasses during application.

Instructions for Use Paint Stripper

  1. Stir well before use. Osmo Paint Stripper does not need to be diluted.
  2. Apply to the surface.
Apply the product generously and evenly with a brush or spatula. Immediately cover it with a thin sheet (e.g., a polyethylene sheet). This prevents drying out and extends the contact time.
  3. Allow the product to work.
The required contact time varies per project: from a few minutes to several hours, or even overnight for thick or old layers.
  4. Remove the paint layer.
As soon as the layer comes loose, carefully remove it with a trowel. Rinse the surface with water – preferably warm water at approx. 40°C.
  5. Repeat if necessary.
In the case of multiple or stubborn layers, a second treatment may be required.
