Step-by-step plan: Removing green deposits with the Osmo Patio Cleaner

Ready to remove your green algae? We are happy to provide you with a handy step-by-step plan so you can get started right away.

1

Preparation

Start by sweeping the surface with a stiff broom. Remove sand, leaves, and other debris to prevent it from mixing with the green algae cleaner. Ensure good drainage to prevent new green algae from forming.

2

Mix the Osmo Patio Cleaner

Add the Osmo Patio Cleaner to a bucket of lukewarm water. The dosage depends on the degree of soiling:

  • Mild soiling: Mix in a ratio of 1:25.
  • Heavy soiling: Mix in a ratio of 1:1 for maximum cleaning power.
  • Apply the mixture evenly to the tiles or wooden surface.

Apply the green algae cleaner

Use the Osmo Patio Brush to apply the green algae cleaner evenly over the surface. Work in the direction of the wood grain or structure of the tiles to allow the product to penetrate optimally. Avoid letting the mixture dry out while removing the green algae.

Scrub thoroughly

Wet your patio. Scrub with the Osmo Patio Brush to effectively loosen green deposits, moss, and dirt. For stubborn green deposits, you can repeat the treatment.

5

Rinse the surface

Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Use a garden hose to rinse the tiles, for example.

Avoid using a high-pressure washer to remove green deposits, as this makes the top layer more porous and the surface more susceptible to moisture. Cleaning with a high-pressure washer is extremely harmful to wood. It causes the soft parts of the wood to be damaged. After using a high-pressure washer, the damaged wood absorbs moisture more easily, causing the wood to turn green faster and rot more quickly.

Check and treat again if necessary

After removing the green deposits, check if all of them have been removed. Repeat the steps for stubborn spots or use Osmo Power-Gel for a deeper cleaning and to remove graying. For the correct approach, please refer to the Osmo Power-Gel product page.

If you would like to prevent green deposits in the future, we recommend treating the surface with an Osmo exterior treatment. This way, you can achieve a beautiful wooden finish or coated tiles, for example.
