Treating a wooden table against stains

After treatment with Osmo, the wooden table can truly be used for everyday life, and coasters are no longer necessary. Osmo offers protection against moisture, such as red wine, coffee, beer, water, and even olive oil. So, it doesn't matter if a family member or friend accidentally knocks over a glass of red wine; the wooden table is protected against this. Furthermore, the treatment also protects against dirt on the surface and reduces scratches. Rings and grease stains will also not appear on the surface.

Which product to use to treat a wooden table?

A wooden table can be treated with Osmo TopOil. This product has been specially developed for treating tables and other furniture surfaces. Several variants of TopOil are available: two colorless variants, Silk-matte and Matte, and five different colors: Natural, White, Graphite, Acia, and Terra.

Handling wooden table indoors

In addition to offering protection against moisture, dirt, and scratches, the Osmo treatment can also be touched up locally without having to sand the entire table. Furthermore, a wooden table treated with Osmo will last for many years; you only need to clean the table occasionally. If you notice minor wear spots, you do not need to sand the surface for this either, but simply touch it up lightly with the Liquid Maintenance Wax. This takes just a few minutes, after which it only needs to dry for a few hours. This way, you have a beautiful table again in no time.

**Natural product**

Besides protection, an Osmo treatment also represents a natural product. Osmo is made from various types of natural oils and waxes such as linseed oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, and thistle oil. Moreover, it is benzene-free; benzene is a harmful substance that is bad for health. Because it is made from natural products and the products do not contain chemical dryers, the product requires 8 to 10 hours of drying time after treatment, during which fresh oxygen is desirable. Therefore, after treatment with Osmo, windows and doors should be opened as much as possible.

Treating a wooden table with another product

When treating a table with lacquer, you do not have the option to touch it up locally. This is only possible after sanding. Furthermore, with lacquer, there is a high risk of it cracking and peeling. And most importantly, lacquer is not a natural product.

Treating a wooden table with color

Oak tables, as well as tables made of pine, spruce, and other wood types, can be treated with color as well as colorless. A table treated with color brings a whole new dimension to your home. An untreated effect can also be created with TopOil Natural 3068. In this case, light wood such as oak retains its light color even after treatment. In addition to light colors, there are also a few dark shades in the range, such as Graphite, Acia, and Terra.

How to treat a wooden table?

Are you going to treat a wooden table yourself? Below is a video on how to treat a wooden table. We also explain step-by-step how to treat a table.

1

Shake the product well for 2 minutes. After opening the can, the oil and wax have separated.

2

Apply the first coat of TopOil to the new or sanded wood with a white pad or brush, and then buff it out with a white pad. Do this along the wood grain.

3

Dry-buff the TopOil with the fleece pad within 20 minutes. Do this along the wood grain. This ensures that not too much product is applied.

4

Errors that occurred during application can be corrected on the wet surface up to 30 minutes after application. Examples include roller marks or brush hairs.

5

The first coat takes approximately 8-10 hours to dry (at 23 degrees and 50% relative humidity). At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying takes longer. Good ventilation must be ensured at all times. Therefore, make sure windows and doors are open.

6

Apply the second, third, and even fourth coat in the same way as the first coat. When using only color, the color becomes more intense with each coat. With a dark variant (3061, 3038, 3039), it becomes progressively darker; with a light variant (3068, 3037), it becomes progressively lighter and whiter. If you desire an untreated look, you can choose to apply a maximum of two coats with the 3068 and then apply 1 or 2 coats of colorless (3028 or 3058).

7

TopOil takes approximately 8-10 hours to dry.

If you are going to polish the surface, it is important to apply 3 to 4 layers. This is to adequately protect the surface against moisture, etc. If you are going to apply it with a brush or roller, you can apply a maximum of 2 layers.

Cleaning wooden table

To enjoy an Osmo-treated table for as long as possible, it is advisable to clean it occasionally. This can be done with the handy Spray Cleaner. This is a cleaning agent that can be sprayed directly onto the wooden table and wiped clean with a cloth. In addition to ensuring a clean table, the Spray Cleaner also nourishes the wood and the treatment, preventing wear spots from forming as quickly.

If wear spots do appear, you can treat the surface with the Liquid Maintenance Wax. This product ensures that the wax content in the TopOil is sufficiently replenished, providing good protection against water and dirt once again.
