Question 1

Which oil should you use for a wooden terrace?

Accepted Answer

For a wooden terrace, use Osmo Terras-Olie in two thin coats. The pigmented versions also protect against UV light and slow down greying; the clear 007 Teakolie does not. The colours are named after the wood species they resemble, but you can use them on any wood species.

Question 2

How do you clean wooden decking?

Accepted Answer

First sweep the decking thoroughly. Then add Osmo Terrasreiniger to the mop water and brush the wood along the grain, so dirt and green deposits come loose. Rinse with clean water and let the decking dry. Never use a pressure washer, because it damages the wood fibres.

Question 3

How do you prevent green deposits on a wooden terrace?

Accepted Answer

Green deposits mainly form in places that stay wet for a long time. Sweep away leaves and dirt regularly and clean the terrace a few times a year with Terrasreiniger. A terrace treated with Terras-Olie repels water and dries faster. Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a top coat also helps against green deposits.

Question 4

How do you make a slippery wooden terrace less slippery?

Accepted Answer

You can make a terrace that becomes slippery in the rain less slippery with Osmo Antislip Terras-Olie 430. Apply it as a third coat, over two coats of Terras-Olie. Antislip never goes directly on bare wood, because on its own it does not protect enough against moisture. The same applies to the steps of outdoor stairs.

Question 5

How do you get a grey wooden terrace brown again?

Accepted Answer

First treat a greyed terrace with Osmo Power-Gel Houtontgrijzer. It removes the grey layer and brings back the natural colour of the wood. Then let the terrace dry thoroughly and apply one thin coat of Terras-Olie. On previously treated wood, always test first on an inconspicuous spot.

Question 6

When can you treat a new wooden terrace?

Accepted Answer

Let a new terrace weather for at least six weeks before treating it. This lets the wood adjust to the outdoor climate so it absorbs the oil better. Then clean it and treat it on a dry day. One litre of Terras-Olie covers about 24 m² per coat.
