American walnut indoors

The best Osmo finishes for American walnut indoors

The best way to treat American walnut indoors is with Osmo TopOil or Blanke Was, because both penetrate the wood and bring out the deep colour and fine grain, without a thick layer that makes the wood look flat.

Oil for American walnut indoors

For American walnut indoors, use Osmo TopOil on tables and furniture and Osmo Blanke Was on floors. Both penetrate the wood and bring out the deep chocolate brown colour and the fine grain, without leaving a thick layer on the surface.

Which oil for which surface

A walnut tabletop or sideboard has to cope with a lot of coffee, wine and grease. TopOil is made for exactly that: food safe, water repellent and easy to touch up locally. For a floor, choose Blanke Was, applied thinly along the grain.

Choose the right sheen level

On dark wood such as American walnut, a fully matt oil can leave a light, white haze. For TopOil, choose 3028 clear satin matt rather than 3058 matt.

Colour and light

Walnut changes colour under the influence of daylight and gradually becomes warmer in tone. An oil or wax finish lets this natural process happen gently, so the wood stays even. Always test a finish on offcuts first.

Caring for oiled walnut

Keep a table or cabinet in good condition with the Spray-Cleaner. Mop a floor with Wisch-Fix and refresh worn areas with the Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. If you have European walnut at home, also take a look at walnut indoors.
