Merbau indoors
The best Osmo finishes for merbau indoors
The best way to treat merbau indoors is with Osmo Blanke Was or TopOil, because merbau can release tannins that stain adjacent materials, and a well-sealing oil limits that.

Oil for merbau indoors
For merbau indoors, use Osmo Blanke Was. Merbau is a hard, oil-rich tropical wood, and a well-penetrating oil protects it against moisture and dirt and limits tannin bleed.
Which oil for which merbau surface
Treat a merbau floor or stairs with Blanke Was. Tropical hardwoods sometimes struggle to absorb an ordinary hardwax oil. Blanke Was is made for exactly that: a clear oil that penetrates oily hardwoods such as merbau and wenge more easily. For a merbau tabletop or piece of furniture, choose TopOil, which is food-safe and resistant to coffee, wine and water. On tropical wood, apply TopOil by buffing, in thin coats with a pad or lint-free cloth.
Tannins and stains
Merbau contains substances that can leach out with water and leave brown stains on light surfaces, such as a tiled floor or grout. So treat new merbau thoroughly on all sides before it comes into contact with moisture. A well-penetrating oil makes the surface water-repellent and limits this leaching.
Choose the right sheen level
On dark and tropical woods, a fully matt oil can leave a white haze. Blanke Was is satin matt and therefore a safe choice. Always apply thin coats and buff away excess oil after a few minutes. Test beforehand on an offcut to see how the wood absorbs the oil.
Maintaining oiled merbau
Mop a merbau floor with Wisch-Fix and refresh worn areas with the Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. Keep tables and furniture clean with the Spray-Cleaner. For a merbau bathroom vanity, also use TopOil, buffed on in thin coats; see also treating wood in the bathroom.
