Maple indoors

The best Osmo finishes for maple indoors

The best way to treat maple indoors is with Osmo TopOil or Hardwax-Olie Original, because maple has a dense, closed wood structure, so an oil absorbs evenly instead of drying blotchy.

Oil for maple indoors

For maple indoors, use Osmo TopOil on worktops and furniture and Osmo Hardwax-Olie Original on floors. Maple is hard, light and dense, and a thin oil finish protects it without changing its even appearance.

Which oil for which maple surface

Maple is widely used for worktops, tables and furniture. For these, choose TopOil, food safe and resistant to coffee, wine and water. For a maple floor, use two thin coats of Hardwax-Olie Original, which cures to a hard-wearing finish and can be touched up locally.

Apply thinly on dense wood

Because of its dense, closed structure, maple absorbs less oil than open-grained species such as oak or ash. So apply really thin coats and wipe off any excess oil after a few minutes with a lint-free cloth or pad. A coat that is too thick dries slowly and can stay tacky. Let each coat dry properly before applying the next, and make sure there is good ventilation while it dries.

Keeping maple light

A clear oil makes maple slightly warmer in tone. To keep the light, almost white colour, first apply Hardwax-Olie Effect Natural 3041 and then one coat of Hardwax-Olie Original. On a tabletop, TopOil 3068 Natural does the same. For a warm tint, there is Decorwas Transparant in 3123 Goud Esdoorn. Always test a colour first on a piece of offcut.

Caring for oiled maple

Clean worktops and furniture with the Spray-Cleaner and a maple floor with Wisch-Fix. Refresh worn areas with the Vloeibare Onderhoudswas, without having to sand the whole surface again. This keeps maple light and even for a long time.
