For ash indoors, use Osmo Hardwax-Olie Original on floors and stairs and Osmo TopOil on furniture and tables. Ash is hard, tough and open-grained, so an oil penetrates quickly and evenly and the striking grain pattern remains clearly visible.
Which oil for which ash surface
For an ash floor or stairs, choose two thin coats of Hardwax-Olie Original. The surface becomes hard-wearing and water-repellent, and can be touched up locally. On a floor, choose 3032 satin matt for a lively look or 3062 matt for the most natural look possible. For ash stairs, Hardwax-Olie Anti-Slip gives extra grip. For ash furniture, a tabletop or a worktop, choose TopOil, as it is food-safe and resistant to coffee, wine and water.
Open pores, striking grain
Ash resembles oak in texture, but is lighter in colour and contains hardly any tannins. This makes dark stains from water or metal less likely. The open pores absorb oil well; buff away excess oil after a few minutes so that no shiny patches are left behind.
White wash or colour in the grain
Precisely because of its open grain, ash is very well suited to a white wash or grey wash. With Olie-Beits you mainly colour the grain, while the wood texture remains visible.
