What is the best paint for the stairs?

When you want to give your stairs a new color, the term ‘stair paint’ is probably the first thing that comes to mind. That is not surprising; paint is a very well-known term used for all kinds of products used to provide a covering finish to a surface with color. However, not all stair paints are created equal.

The best stair paint from Osmo is to use Osmo Decorwax with color pigments. This wood treatment is a hardwax and oil composition that penetrates the wood. This ‘stair paint’ colors the wood, while preserving the wood grain. Because it penetrates, the wood will feel rougher and stiffer, meaning you are less likely to slip off the treads when walking up the stairs in socks.

Do you want it even safer? Finish the coloring with a top coat of Hardwax-Oil anti-slip for an even rougher surface that you won't easily slip off.

1. Wear-resistant stair paint

When choosing paint, it is important that it does not wear out within the first year. The quality of the product is the deciding factor in this regard. For this reason, lacquer is often chosen, but this creates a smooth top layer.

Osmo Decorwas Creativ is a wear-resistant (hardwax) oil-based paint that can be maintained and touched up locally. When painting the stairs, you naturally want to preserve the natural grain of the wood.

Would you prefer a wash effect on the stairs? Then you can choose an Osmo Hardwax-Olie Farbig or an Osmo Oil-Stain. These products give the wood a wash effect after just one coat.

2. Anti-slip stair paint

When you treat the stairs with lacquer or wood paint, they may become slippery. Osmo Decorwas Creativ penetrates the wood and does not create a slippery top layer. Do you still find the wood too slippery? Then use Osmo Hardwax-Olie Antislip R8 as a finishing layer. A protective layer containing a subtle grit so that you won't slip.
