Furthermore, the warmer it is, the faster the hardwood oil will dry.
How should you apply hardwood oil?
If you choose our hardwood oil, it is important to stir the product for two minutes first. This is because the oil and the wax are still separated after opening. Have you stirred the product well? Then you can apply a test coat to check if the result is to your liking. If that is indeed the case, you can apply a first coat with a brush or roller. After applying the first coat, it takes approximately 10 to 12 hours for the hardwood oil to dry. After this, you can apply a second coat and must again wait until the oil has dried. As soon as the second coat is also completely dry, the wood is well protected against various weather conditions.

Below you will find various colors for oiling outdoor hardwood. Osmo Terras-Olie is a transparent oil available in color variants as well as colorless. The colors are named after wood types, but are not only suitable for treating the specific wood species. Applying hardwood oil outdoors: step-by-step plan
Want to apply hardwood oil outdoors? Then pay attention to the weather. Always work in dry weather and at a temperature between 8 °C and 25 °C. The warmer it is, the faster the oil dries.
Step 1: clean the wood Remove dirt, moss, algae and loose fibres. Use Osmo Terrasreiniger for this, and Osmo Power-Gel Hout Ontgrijzer if the wood has greyed. Let the wood dry completely before you continue.
Step 2: sand if necessary Is the wood rough or damaged, or are you removing remnants of an old treatment? Then lightly sand the wood with sandpaper (grit 80–120) and remove the dust thoroughly afterwards.
Step 3: stir the oil well Stir the Osmo Terras-Olie for at least two minutes. During storage the oil and the wax separate; stirring well ensures a homogeneous product and an optimal result.
Step 4: apply a test coat First apply a small test on an inconspicuous spot to check whether the colour and the result are as you want them.
Step 5: apply the first coat Work the oil in with a brush, roller or Osmo pad. Always work along the grain of the wood and make sure it is evenly distributed. Remove excess oil immediately: build-up leads to a sticky surface.
Step 6: let it dry Let the first coat dry for 10 to 12 hours before you continue.
Step 7: apply the second coat A second coat provides optimal protection. Apply it in the same way as the first coat and let it dry completely as well.
Step 8: curing After drying the wood is protected, but it only reaches maximum hardness and resistance after about 5 to 7 days. Avoid heavy loads or prolonged contact with water during that period.
