Treating a mahogany floor with Osmo
A mahogany floor can be treated with Osmo. Because this is a tropical wood, we recommend treating the wood with Osmo Clear Wax. Osmo Clear Wax, also known as hardwood oil, is the ideal product for treating hardwoods rich in oils and other pigments. Tropical woods, such as mahogany, often have the property of absorbing products that are somewhat more difficult to apply, such as hardwax oil. Osmo Clear Wax is an oil and wax-based product, but with a minimal proportion of wax. Due to the small proportion of wax, it is easier for the mahogany floor to absorb the Clear Wax. The Clear Wax is colorless and creates a wet-look effect on the Jatoba floor. It will make the wood slightly darker. By wetting the wood, you can see the color effect of the Clear Wax.
Treating a mahogany table
A mahogany piece of furniture, such as a chair, table, worktop, or kitchen counter, can be treated with Osmo TopOil 3028 Silk Matt. This product has been specially developed for treating furniture. Thanks to its size and convenient pouring spout, the product is specifically designed for treating furniture. TopOil 3028 colors the wood as if it were wet and protects the mahogany table against drinks, food, and dirt. Therefore, it is not a problem if a glass of drink accidentally spills on the table while eating. Thanks to the excellent protection, the liquid remains on the surface of the wood. Additionally, TopOil bears the "Food Safe" certification mark. This means that it is not a problem if food is eaten directly from the treated table or kitchen counter; this is not harmful to health.
Supplies for treating mahogany wood
Lightening mahogany
When mahogany is sanded, the color of the wood becomes lighter. Because it is only possible to treat mahogany with the colorless Clear Wax using Osmo, the color becomes darker again after treatment.
The Hardwax Oil Effect Natural ensures that light wood types remain light in color. This is because the product contains a small amount of white pigment. Treating mahogany with a product containing white pigment can result in very uneven absorption, which can cause a white haze to appear on the wood. Therefore, we do not recommend treating mahogany with white pigment.
Sanding mahogany wood
Do you have a treated wooden floor or table? And do you want to sand and treat it? Then it is advisable to follow the following sanding steps: start with grit 40; this is a coarse grit that removes the old treatment. Next, use grit 80 and finish with grit 120 to sand it smoothly and evenly.
After sanding, the dust must be removed using a vacuum cleaner. The wood does not need to be degreased or cleaned with water.

Mahogany maintenance
After treatment, it is recommended to maintain the wooden floor; this extends the lifespan of the treatment. Mop the floor once a week or every two weeks with Osmo Wisch-Fix. This product is mixed with water. Mop the mahogany floor with the mixture while damp. For tables and kitchens, you can use Osmo Spray-Cleaner instead of Wisch-Fix. You can easily spray this handy cleaner onto the table, making it clean again while simultaneously nourishing it thanks to its ingredients.
If you experience signs of wear, Osmo Liquid Maintenance Wax is the right product. You simply polish this product onto these worn spots, causing them to diminish.
