Onderhoudsolie for wooden floors

Osmo Onderhoudsolie is suitable for treating wooden floors that have already been treated. Onderhoudsolie creates a new protective layer on the wooden floor. It is suitable for all kinds of wooden floors, such as engineered parquet and solid planks. Thanks to the treatment, the wooden floor is protected against moisture again, such as a spilled glass of water. By maintaining a wooden floor properly, you no longer need to sand it.

Onderhoudsolie is therefore suitable for treating wood that has already been treated. Osmo Onderhoudsolie was specially developed for wooden floors that have been treated with Osmo Hardwax-Olie and are ready for a new coat. Wooden floors that have been finished with another oil can often be treated with Osmo Onderhoudsolie as well, which gives a better protected surface. In that case it is important to test on one board first to check whether the result and the adhesion to the wood are good. Onderhoudsolie cannot be applied to wooden floors that have been treated with varnish or a traditional wax. Combined with Osmo Intensiefreiniger, Onderhoudsolie gives the wood a new layer. This makes the wooden floor look almost new again and well protected. Onderhoudsolie is not suitable for treating untreated wood.

Onderhoudsolie variants

There are 4 variants of Osmo Onderhoudsolie, three of which are colorless: 3079 semi-matte, 3081 matte and 3098 semi-matte. The last variant (3098) makes the wooden floor slightly less slippery thanks to the anti-slip additives in the product; the product contains no grit. That makes it very suitable for treating wooden floors. The colorless variants color the wood as if it has been mopped, deepening the color of the wood. In addition to the colorless variants, there is also a white variant: 3440 wit transparant. This Onderhoudsolie is suitable for treating wooden floors that have been finished with a white topcoat or white wash.

1. Before you apply Onderhoudsolie, we recommend cleaning the floor first with Osmo Intensiefreiniger and a green pad. Always test on one board first to check whether Onderhoudsolie gives the desired result and adheres well.
2. Apply Onderhoudsolie with the Hinged Pad Holder or Hand Pad Holder and a white pad, and buff it in. Buff along the board and the grain. Make sure you do not apply too much product.
3. Let Onderhoudsolie soak in for 20 minutes. Any excess product, meaning Onderhoudsolie that remains on the floor, must be removed with the Fleece Pad. Buff it dry along the board and the grain. Make sure you buff entire boards dry; this prevents lap marks. For small surfaces, you can also use the Easy Pad Polishing Cloths instead of the Fleece Pad.
4. Let the surface dry with good ventilation: open doors or windows and keep the temperature at around 21 °C (70 °F).
5. Drying time approx. 3 to 5 hours

To apply Onderhoudsolie standing up, the Osmo Hinged Pad Cleaner with pads is the right choice; it can be attached to the Telescopic Handle. To apply it by hand, you can use the pads with the Hand Pad Holder.

How often should you apply Onderhoudsolie to a wooden floor?

How often Onderhoudsolie needs to be applied depends on several factors, namely how intensively the floor is used and what the wooden floor was originally treated with. In a normal household, however, a treatment with Onderhoudsolie usually lasts between 3 and 5 years. For a wooden floor in a restaurant or hotel, Onderhoudsolie may need to be applied every year or every other year. It is very important to keep an eye on when a new coat of Onderhoudsolie is needed. This way, you keep the wooden floor in perfect condition. Onderhoudsolie is suitable for treating the entire floor.

To refresh the floor and touch up local worn spots, you can apply Osmo Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. Think of worn spots in high-traffic areas, such as in the kitchen or near the sofa.

With 1 L of Onderhoudsolie you can treat about 40 to 60 m², so you do not need much product to renovate your wooden floor.

With 1 L of Intensiefreiniger you can treat about 80 to 100 m².

Drying time of Onderhoudsolie on a wooden floor

The drying time of Osmo Onderhoudsolie is 3 to 5 hours. Because the product is buffed onto the wooden floor, Onderhoudsolie dries quickly, so furniture can soon be put back in place. Open windows and doors during drying so that Onderhoudsolie can dry properly. The product contains no chemical driers, so it needs fresh air from outside to dry.
