What is the best stain for your shed?

Osmo Natuurlijke Olie-Beits is the best stain for treating a shed. Applying Osmo Natuurlijke Olie-Beits protects the wood against UV radiation, water and dirt. Another advantage of this Osmo stain is that it is based on natural oils, so it protects for a long time. You do not need to apply the stain every year: one treatment usually lasts between 3 and 6 years. Osmo Natuurlijke Olie-Beits covers 26 m² per liter. Compared to other stains, that is at least twice as much.

Restaining a stained shed

Is your shed already stained? Then you can do a test to see whether the Osmo stain adheres to the existing stain. Osmo stain is based on natural, plant-based oils, while most other stains are water-based. That is why it is always wise to test first. Has your shed already been treated with Osmo stain? Then you can simply apply a new coat of Osmo stain to the wood without sanding.

Is there a colored stain on it? Then remove that color first, either by sanding the garden house or shed or by using a paint stripper. Osmo has a paint remover gel made from natural ingredients: Osmo Verf Remover Gel.

How do I stain a shed?

1

Test

Choose the right stain for your wood. Not sure yet which color you want to apply? Osmo sells 5 ml test samples of every variant. You can use them to do a small test on the wood, which also lets you test the adhesion at the same time.

2

Remove the old coat

Remove old finishes before applying the Osmo stain. You can do this by sanding or with Osmo Verf Remover Gel.

3

Stir

Stir the stain thoroughly, because the oils and pigments separate.

4

First coat

Apply the first coat of stain to the wood. Always work along the board and with the grain. You can use an Osmo brush, block brush or microfiber roller to apply it.

5

Drying

Let the first coat dry for 8 to 12 hours. Make sure it is at least 10 °C and not raining.

6

Second coat

Apply a second coat of stain in the same way as the first and let it dry for 8 to 12 hours as well. Your wooden shed is now well protected against the weather.
