Painting a garden shed

Besides staining, you can also paint a garden shed. When you paint a garden shed, you apply an opaque layer to the wood. The wood grain disappears, but the structure of the wood remains visible. For painting a garden shed, Osmo Landhuisverf is the right product. The Dutch product name even says it: suitable for painting country houses and garden houses. This paint is based on plant oils and, after two coats, protects the wood against moisture and UV radiation. This slows down the graying of the wood. This treatment also lasts between 3 and 6 years, and you do not need to sand before applying a new coat.

Garden shed paint colors

Painting a garden shed with Landhuisverf therefore gives an opaque layer of color. Below you will find various options for painting a garden shed.

Painting a garden shed black

As described earlier under the heading "Staining a garden shed black", you can also paint a garden shed black. For this, two coats of RAL 9005 Gitzwart are applied. This gives the wood an opaque black look. A garden shed can also be painted opaque white. This is possible in two RAL colors: RAL 9010 Zuiverwit and 2101 = RAL 9016 Verkeerswit.

Painting a garden shed anthracite

To color a garden shed anthracite, you can choose Antraciet 2703 or 2716 Antracietgrijs. 2716 is slightly lighter in color, but both are dark anthracite shades. Besides anthracite, painting a garden shed opaque gray is also an option. For the gray shades, you can choose from: 2704 Steengrijs, 2708 Kiezelgrijs, 2735 Lichtgrijs and 2742 Verkeersgrijs.

Painting a garden shed blue

Osmo Nederland also offers 3 different shades of blue for painting a garden shed blue: 2501 Labradorblauw, 2506 Koningsblauw and 2507 Duifblauw. These shades look beautiful on a garden shed, but are also often used for painting the outside of tiny houses.

A green color cannot be missing: 2404 Dennengroen gives the wood a very natural green color. 2404 fits perfectly in a garden full of plants and flowers.

Tips

Have you chosen the right color and are you ready to paint or stain your garden shed? Then we have listed the best tips below.

  1. Make sure old layers of varnish and paint have been removed. Has your garden shed already been treated with Osmo before? Then you can skip step 1. You can remove old layers by sanding. Don't feel like sanding? You could do a test to see whether the Osmo products adhere to the existing layer.
  2. Has the wood turned gray? Then first use Osmo Power-Gel Houtontgrijzer. This gel is easy to apply and brings the natural color of the wood back to the surface.
  3. Before you start, stir the product thoroughly for 2 minutes with a stirring stick. After opening the can, the oil and color pigments are separated. Always do a test first to check whether the product adheres well and the result is good.
  4. Use a brush or floor brush to apply the paint or stain. On smooth boards, you can also apply the products with a microfiber roller.
  5. Watch out for small mistakes. Mistakes made during application can be corrected on the wet surface up to 15 minutes after application. Think of start marks from a roller or hairs from a brush.
  6. The first coat takes about 10 to 12 hours to dry (at 23 degrees and 50% relative humidity). At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying takes longer. Good ventilation must be ensured at all times. So make sure you do not apply it in bad weather or rain.
  7. Once the first coat has dried, the second coat can be applied. Apply it in the same way as the first coat and let this coat dry thoroughly.
  8. Future maintenance can be carried out with Osmo Terrasreiniger. It is also suitable for cleaning garden sheds.
  9. Want to apply a new coat? You can! You do not need to sand for this.

Painting a weathered garden shed

Do you have a garden shed that has not received any attention for a while? Your weathered garden shed can also be painted with Osmo, protecting it against moisture and UV radiation. Make sure the wood is de-grayed and cleaned with Osmo Power-Gel before you paint the wood. After a treatment with Power-Gel, the wood can be painted with a Landhuisverf color of your choice. You simply apply the paint to the wood with a brush. For the right protection, apply two coats. In no time, you will have transformed a weathered garden shed into a beautifully painted garden shed that the whole family can enjoy.

Protecting a garden shed against moisture

As you have probably already read above, Osmo's stains and paints protect against moisture from rain, snow or water. This means the garden shed can stand outside all year round without moisture soaking into the wood. Because water does not soak into the wood, the wood stays drier and is less susceptible to dirt and green deposits. In addition, the products also protect against UV radiation from the sun. This slows down the graying process caused by this radiation.
