Protect the fence against graying and sun
Fence oil is used to protect hardwood fences. Hardwood/tropical wood fences are difficult or impossible to treat with varnish or stain because these contain many wood extracts (such as oil or resin). Varnish peels or flakes, and water-based stain is poorly absorbed by the wood. When the wood extracts are drawn out of the wood by sun and rain (weathering), the wood turns gray. The once characteristic fence is now a gray, drab, dirty mess and quickly turns green.
Why oil your fence? UV protection oil is a unique product for people looking for an extra protective layer to ensure the fence is not damaged by the sun and also acquires a vibrant color. Are you curious about exactly what fence oil is and how to use it? Are you wondering about the benefits of oil for hardwood fences, or are you curious about how transparent the oil is? We are happy to tell you everything about fence oil!
Benefits of UV Protection Oil
- With protective film layer against UV rays
- Slows down the graying process with UV SPF 12
- Ideal for all vertical wooden surfaces
- Based on natural, plant-based oils and waxes
What is fence oil?
Osmo fence oil has a UV protection factor, just like sunscreen for your skin. It is therefore wise to use this oil in the same way for your fence; once applied, the product can last 3 to 6 years, but just like with sunscreen, it is useful to check every year whether it needs to be touched up. This product also works excellently against algae, mold, and water or moisture. Keep in mind that a new fence needs at least 6 weeks to acclimatize to rain, moisture, and sun. Therefore, wait before applying fence oil.

Fence treatment oil
To treat the fence with UV oil, it is advisable to start with a test. After all, every type of wood is different, so the product will turn out differently. Start with a small area to see how the product is absorbed.
- Ensure that the fence has a maximum moisture content of 20%.
- Apply a thin layer of the oil to the fence using a brush or roller.
- You should apply the oil in the direction of the wood grain. Then brush the product along the wood grain and planks.
- Is it untreated wood? Then apply a second coat.
- Once the product has been fully applied, it takes 10 to 12 hours to dry. This applies to a humidity of 50%. At colder temperatures, it takes longer for the product to dry.

Fence Oil is available in various transparent variants. The 420 is a colorless variant that colors the wood as if it were wet. The other variants contain only a transparent coloring. All variants of Fence Oil protect the wood against UV radiation. Do you prefer an opaque finish? Then use Osmo Country House Paint.
The result is a satin-matte finish. Would you prefer a matte finish? Then apply the Natural Oil Stain 701 colorless matte as a second coat.

Benefits of oil for fences
Oiling your fence comes with many benefits. It is a job that takes some time, but once the product is applied, it offers protection against sun, water, moisture, algae, and fungi for 3 to 6 years. Because the product contains a UV protection factor, your fence will no longer be affected by the sun. The sun can cause your fence to turn gray over time. Many people do not find this very attractive. For the fence, we use a transparent oil that ensures the color of the wood will not change. However, the wood retains its beautiful appearance and does not turn gray in the sun.
