Step-by-step plan: treating an oak table
There are several ways to treat an oak table. We recommend applying three to four buffed-in coats of TopOil, or two coats with a brush or roller.
Shake
Shake the product well for 2 minutes. This makes sure the oil and wax are well mixed.
First coat: white pad
Apply the first coat of TopOil with a white pad or brush to the new or sanded table. Do this in the direction of the wood grain.
Buff out the first coat: fleece pad
Within 20 minutes, buff the TopOil dry with the fleece pad or the Easy Pad cloths. Do this in the direction of the wood grain as well. This makes sure you do not apply too much product.
Let the first coat dry
The first coat takes about 8 to 10 hours to dry (at 23 °C / 73 °F and 50% relative humidity). At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying takes longer. Always make sure there is good ventilation, so keep windows and doors open.
Apply 2 to 3 more coats
Apply the second, third and even fourth coat in the same way as the first coat.
What is the best treatment for an oak table?
The best oil for oak tables is Osmo TopOil. TopOil is a product based on oil and wax, which creates a protective surface after treatment. It protects against moisture and dirt. In addition, TopOil is easy to touch up locally and easy to maintain.
TopOil is available in seven versions: five colored and two clear. By wetting the untreated wood surface, you get an impression of the look after treatment with the clear versions, Osmo TopOil 3058 and 3028. This treatment creates a permanent wet look.
Treating an oak table naturally, without color change
Do you actually like the table just the way it is? TopOil 3068 combined with clear TopOil (silk matte or matte) lets you protect oak tables without changing their color. Because TopOil Natural contains a small amount of white pigment, the table stays natural and light after treatment. This way you can enjoy the untreated look with the benefits of an optimally protected table.
Would you rather apply a different color? TopOil Acacia, Terra or Grafiet give the oak table a subtle, darker tint. Prefer something light? Then TopOil Wit may be the right choice for you. This product gives your table a subtle white look. Would you like to deepen the color of the wood? Then choose one of the clear versions.

Cleaning and maintaining an oak table
To keep your oak table looking its best for as long as possible, it is advisable to clean it daily and maintain it regularly. For daily cleaning you can use Osmo Spray-Cleaner. This product contains a small amount of wax, which nourishes the finish of the table and makes it last longer. Spray-Cleaner is economical in use and can be used with a microfiber cloth.
When the table eventually starts to show wear, it should be treated with Osmo Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. The spray version of this product is easy to use on furniture surfaces. With Vloeibare Onderhoudswas you can refresh the table and fix stains and light scratches. In no time, your table will be as good as new!
