The term 'paint' usually refers to a product used to color surfaces. However, there are many different types of products for coloring wood, which makes it difficult for us to predict exactly what you are looking for. If you want to protect the wood but keep a natural look, you are probably looking for a hardwax oil or a natural wood stain. If you would rather give the wood a fully opaque color, you are probably looking for a wood paint or a coloring wood treatment. We are happy to explain the difference between a wood paint and a wood treatment.

When you want to color a wooden surface, the word paint is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Paint is a general term for products intended to beautify a surface by giving it a pigmented layer. Our webshop does not sell ordinary wood paint. We believe that an average wood paint does not offer the wood enough protection. A paint layer wears faster, so the surface needs maintenance more often. What we do sell are coloring wood treatments. A coloring wood treatment colors the wood, just like a paint would, but protects it much longer against moisture, dirt and damage. A coloring wood treatment therefore lasts much longer, which means your wooden surface also needs much less maintenance.

Untreated effect

Wood naturally has a charming look. That is why many people prefer to leave wood untreated. However, untreated wood is not protected against moisture, dirt and damage, so your untreated wood will not stay beautiful for long. That is why we also sell wood treatments with an untreated effect. These treatments ensure that the wood keeps its untreated look while also being protected for a long time.

Wet-look effect

A wet-look effect refers to the look wood gets when it becomes wet. When you wet untreated wood, it turns slightly darker and gets a warm appearance. A treatment with a wet-look effect ensures that the wood keeps this look permanently. A wet-look effect is a good solution for anyone who would like to make a wooden surface a shade darker while keeping the figure and structure of the wood visible.

Even coloring

Wood naturally has a lot of figure. Not everyone wants to cover it with a thick layer of paint. That is why we also sell wood treatments that give the wood an even color without being fully opaque. This treatment gives the wood a different color that is evenly distributed over the surface, while the figure in the wood remains visible.

Wash effect

Do you find the figure of the wood so beautiful that you actually want to accentuate it? Then we recommend a treatment with a wash effect. A treatment with a wash effect makes the figure of the wood darker, so it stands out even more. It gives the wooden surface a bold look that lasts for years.

Opaque color

Would you rather color the wood fully opaque? Then it is best to choose a treatment with opaque coloring. This treatment gives the surface an evenly colored appearance that completely covers the wood. After the coloring treatment, the figure of the wood will be less visible, but it will never disappear completely.

Do you want to keep the new color on the wood looking beautiful for a long time? Then we recommend applying a coat of clear Hardwax-Olie Original on top of the color coat. A clear top coat gives the wood an extra layer of protection that is easy to touch up in the future. When the surface is used intensively, the clear layer wears first, so the color layer is not affected. Are you planning to buff a color onto the wood? To apply the best possible top coat, we recommend rolling or brushing it onto the wood, as this applies more product than buffing. However, make sure you do not apply too thick a coat. This could cause poor adhesion, which actually makes the top coat wear faster.

Cleaning wood

Surfaces treated with Osmo are easy to clean with Osmo cleaning products. A wooden floor, for example, is best mopped with Osmo Wisch-Fix. Ordinary cleaning products sometimes contain ingredients that can damage the finish on the wood and make it wear faster. As a result, both the protection and the look of the wood are lost more quickly. Because Wisch-Fix contains a small share of wax, both the wood and the finish are nourished while mopping. This prevents the wood from drying out and keeps it beautiful for as long as possible. For two liters of mopping water, you only need one capful of Wisch-Fix. Make sure you mop the floor regularly to maintain an optimal result.

For surfaces such as tables and kitchen countertops, we recommend Osmo Spray-Cleaner. This product also contains a small share of wax, which nourishes the surface. Spray-Cleaner is ready to use and is ideal for cleaning and maintaining various surfaces. For an optimal look, clean the surface regularly with Spray-Cleaner.

Does the wood need more than just a clean? With intensive use, a wooden surface will eventually get damaged. Light damage such as scratches or light stains can easily be repaired with the Osmo Renovatie Bundel. This set contains Osmo Intensiefreiniger and Osmo Onderhoudsolie, which you need to fully restore your wood. With Intensiefreiniger, you can clean the surface thoroughly so that all the dirt is drawn out of the wood. Onderhoudsolie applies a new protective layer to the surface that will last for years. After treatment with the Renovatie Bundel, your wood is as good as new!
