Why paint your table?
Whether you want to breathe new life into an old table or add a personal touch, painting a table can do wonders for your interior. You do not only add color, you also give the table optimal protection against moisture, dirt and wear. Painting a table can also be a fun DIY project. It is certainly not difficult, but for the best result there are a few things to keep in mind. Don't worry, we will explain it step by step. That way you can do it all yourself!
Choose the right paint
You are probably painting your table mainly because you want to change its look. But wouldn't it be handy if the table were better protected at the same time? The choice of paint is more important here than you might think. Regular paints, based on latex or solvents, create a colored film on top of the wood. This provides good protection, but with wear this film can crack or peel. That is annoying, because then you have to repaint the whole table all over again.
It is better to choose an oil-based finish, such as Osmo Decorwas Creativ. Like paint, this finish has a high pigment coverage, but it penetrates into the wood and bonds there. It protects the wood from within against moisture, dirt and damage, so the color layer will not crack or peel. The structure of the wood stays visible and your table lasts much longer! Apply a clear TopOil as a top coat, so you can easily maintain the table in the future without color differences.
Preparing the table
Good preparation is essential for a good end result. Before you can start painting, the table must be clean and bare. Is the table new? Then you can usually get started right away. Any old varnish or paint residue must first be removed by sanding. Sand the table in the grit sequence 40-80-120. This gives you a bare, even surface to which the new finish can adhere well. Don't forget to take safety precautions, such as wearing a dust mask, safety glasses and gloves. After sanding, make the table completely dust-free with the Osmo Easy Pads.
Is the table untreated but very dirty? Then clean it with Intensiefreiniger to remove deeply ingrained dirt.

Maintaining your table
Now that the table looks great, you naturally want to keep it that way for as long as possible. By cleaning your table daily and maintaining it regularly, it stays beautiful for longer. Regular maintenance can prevent major damage and wear. You can clean the table with a regular cleaning spray, but this can slowly break down the finish. Would you rather avoid that? Then we recommend using Osmo Spray-Cleaner. This cleaning product contains a small amount of wax, which nourishes the finish every day. Want to know more about cleaning a table? Is the table showing wear, stains or scratches? Then it is time for maintenance. To refresh the table, you can use Osmo Vloeibare Onderhoudswas Spray. You can easily buff this product onto the table using our small pads with a hand pad holder.
