What you need for this tutorial;

Want to paint impregnated wood and looking for a durable, opaque finish? Good news: with the right preparation and supplies, you can give your wooden fence, garden shed or other outdoor wood long-lasting protection against moisture, UV radiation and dirt. In this tutorial, we explain how to treat impregnated wood, whether it is new, grayed or previously painted.

Preparation: how to get the wood ready for treatment

Before you start applying Osmo Landhuisverf, it is important to know what condition the wood is in. The right preparation ensures good adhesion and a long lifespan for your paint layer.

Untreated wood: New, impregnated wood does not need to be sanded. However, you must first let it weather for 4 to 6 weeks, so that the impregnating agent can be properly absorbed and the maintenance interval is extended. After that, you can treat the wood directly with Osmo Landhuisverf.

Previously treated wood: Has the wood been painted or stained before? Then you must first remove the old layers by sanding. We recommend sanding with the following grit sequence: 40-80-120. This creates an even and smooth surface.

Maintenance or applying a new coat: Want to refresh an existing layer? Then clean the wood thoroughly with Osmo Terrasreiniger to remove any stains. Has the wood turned gray? Then first use Osmo Power-Gel Houtontgrijzer. After drying (24 hours), you can apply a new coat of Landhuisverf right away.
