For untreated cork indoors, use Osmo Hardwax-Olie Original. Cork is naturally warm, soft and fairly moisture resistant, and an oil mainly makes the surface more dirt repellent and more resistant to stains, while it stays comfortable underfoot.
Which finish for cork
Treat a cork floor or wall with Hardwax-Olie Original. The oil penetrates the open structure and cures to a protective finish, while the cork keeps breathing and stays warm and soft to the touch. Once dry, Hardwax-Olie Original is harmless to people, animals and plants, so it is also suitable for a child's bedroom.
The first coat soaks in a lot
Cork is porous and absorbs a lot of oil with the first coat. Apply the oil thinly, let it soak in and wipe off the excess before it dries. After the drying time, apply a second thin coat. This gives an even result without shiny or tacky patches.
Pre-finished cork
Many cork tiles and planks are already lacquered or given a top layer in the factory. Oil does not adhere well to these. Oil is suitable for untreated or fully sanded cork. If in doubt, first do a test on a loose tile or an inconspicuous spot. If the oil stays on the surface, the cork has already been finished.
Caring for oiled cork
Mop a cork floor with Wisch-Fix; the small amount of wax keeps the finish nourished. Do not use too much water. Refresh worn areas with the Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. Put felt pads under chair legs to limit dents in the soft material. You will find more tips in wooden floor maintenance.
