For fir indoors, use Osmo Hardwax-Olie Original or Osmo Olie-Beits. Fir is light and soft, and an oil penetrates the wood and makes the surface sturdier without losing its natural, light look.
Which finish for which fir surface
Indoors, fir is mainly found as wall panelling, ceilings, furniture panels or attic floors. Treat a floor, wall or ceiling with two thin coats of Hardwax-Olie Original, which makes the soft wood harder and more hard-wearing. For a piece of furniture or a cupboard, choose TopOil, which is resistant to coffee, wine and water. Once dry, both are harmless to people, animals and plants.
Knots and yellowing
Fir often has many knots, which darken and sometimes release resin. An oil finish lets the wood breathe and does not form a layer that can come loose over a knot, as lacquer sometimes does. Fir also yellows under the influence of light. To keep the wood light, first apply Hardwax-Olie Effect Natural 3041, intended for light wood species, followed by one coat of Hardwax-Olie Original.
White wash or grey
For a white or grey look, buff in one coat of Olie-Beits, for example in 3501 Wit or 3518 Licht grijs, and finish with two coats of clear Hardwax-Olie Original. Maintaining oiled fir
Mop a floor with Wisch-Fix and refresh worn patches with the Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. Keep furniture clean with the Spray-Cleaner. Touch up small scratches in the soft wood locally with the same oil, without sanding the whole floor.
