Finish indoor wooden stairs with Osmo Hardwax-Olie Anti-Slip. It is made for floors and stairs that need extra grip. The wood becomes hard-wearing, water-repellent and stain-resistant, while the grain stays visible.
R9 or R11
Hardwax-Olie Anti-Slip comes in three versions. 3088 semi-matt is smooth, without grains, and achieves slip resistance class R9. 3089 satin matt contains a fine grain, gives more grip and achieves R11. For black stairs there is 3094 Zwart, opaque matt, with class R9. For stairs in a household with children or pets, 3089 is often the best choice.
Matching stairs and floor
If the stairs lead into a wooden floor, finish the floor with Hardwax-Olie Original and the treads with Anti-Slip. That way the look matches and you have grip where you need it. If you want to give the stairs a colour first, read how to stain stairs. For the floor, see floor indoors.
Applying tread by tread
Sand the treads clean and remove all dust. Work from top to bottom, and treat every other tread if you want to keep using the stairs in the meantime. Apply thin coats in the direction of the grain and finish each tread across its full width to avoid lap marks. After the last coat, let the stairs cure properly before using them intensively again.
Maintenance
Mop the stairs with Wisch-Fix and refresh the walking line with the Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. With use, the grip can decrease over time. A new thin coat of Anti-Slip on the treads restores it.
