Oil for a wooden kitchen countertop
Finish a wooden kitchen countertop with Osmo TopOil. TopOil is made for kitchens, worktops and tables, protects against water, grease and stains and is food-safe once dry. So you can prepare and serve food on it without worry.
How to apply TopOil to a kitchen countertop
Sand the countertop clean and remove all dust. Then apply two thin coats of TopOil with a brush or roller, or buff in three to four coats with a pad or lint-free cloth. Thin coats dry through better than one thick coat. If the countertop has been treated before, do a test first and apply no more than one coat when renovating.
Around the sink and the hob
Most water collects around the sink. So also treat the cut edges of the openings for the sink and hob, and the underside of the countertop. End grain and untreated edges absorb moisture fastest and can swell. Do not leave puddles of water standing, but wipe them away after washing up.
Colour and sheen
Choose 3028 satin matt or 3058 matt for a clear finish. On dark and tropical wood species, 3058 can leave a greyish haze; 3028 is often better there. 3068 Natural keeps light wood light, for an untreated look on your kitchen countertop.
Maintaining the kitchen countertop
Clean the countertop daily with the Spray-Cleaner. For periodic maintenance there is the Tafel & Keuken onderhoudsset. Put hot pans on a trivet and cut on a board, not directly on the countertop. If you use the countertop as a work surface, also see worktop.
