The best way to treat OSB indoors is with Osmo Hardwax-Olie Original, on a base coat of Osmo Houtbeschermer in damp rooms, because OSB's visible wood chips absorb oil unevenly if the surface isn't cleaned properly beforehand, so a thin, even coat is important.

Hardwax-Oil Express Drying Time The Express dries within 2 to 3 hours (at the correct temperature of 23°C and 50% humidity). Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity may increase the drying time. Applying too much can also increase the drying time. Adding Osmo Hardener 6632 can shorten the drying time of this product to 1 to 2 hours. Osmo Hardener 6632 This hardener can be added to Osmo Hardwax-Oil Express to accelerate the drying time to 1 to 2 hours. Please note: after adding the hardener to the Hardwax-Oil Express, the Hardwax-Oil should not be left for longer than 90 minutes. Note: 0.15L of hardener is just enough for 2.5L of Hardwax-Oil Express. If you want to use less Hardwax-Oil, add 6% of the hardener to the product. The pot life after adding the hardener is 90 minutes.

Oil for OSB indoors

For OSB indoors, use Osmo Hardwax-Olie Original on floors and walls, Osmo TopOil on furniture, and in damp rooms first Osmo Houtbeschermer as a base coat. OSB is made of pressed wood strands, and an oil makes the board more water repellent without hiding its characteristic structure.

Which finish for which OSB surface

Treat an OSB floor, wall or ceiling with two thin coats of Hardwax-Olie Original. If an OSB floor or staircase gets a lot of foot traffic, Hardwax-Olie Anti-Slip gives extra grip. For an OSB cabinet or piece of furniture, choose TopOil. For a white look with the strand structure still visible, choose Hardwax-Olie Farbig 3040 Wit. Once dry, all products are harmless to people, animals and plants.

OSB in damp rooms

In a bathroom, utility room or loft with a lot of moisture, first apply Houtbeschermer. It is made for wood that is prone to mould and works without biocides. Houtbeschermer is not a finish in itself: always finish it with Hardwax-Olie Original or TopOil. You will find more tips in treating wood in the bathroom.

An even result

The strands of OSB absorb oil unevenly: coarse parts soak up more than smooth ones. So make the board free of dust and grease, lightly sand rough spots and apply the oil thinly and evenly. Wipe off excess oil after a few minutes, so no shiny patches appear. Always test on an offcut first.

Caring for oiled OSB

Mop an OSB floor with Wisch-Fix and refresh walkways with the Vloeibare Onderhoudswas. Keep furniture and work areas clean with the Spray-Cleaner. This keeps the board looking good and easy to clean for a long time.
