Finishing a worktop indoors

Finish an indoor wooden worktop with Osmo TopOil. TopOil penetrates the wood and makes the worktop hard-wearing, water-repellent and stain-resistant. If a scratch or worn patch appears, you can touch it up locally without sanding the whole worktop.

How to apply TopOil

Sand the worktop clean and remove all dust. Then apply two thin coats of TopOil with a brush or roller, or buff in three to four coats with a pad or lint-free cloth. Also treat the edges, the underside and the end grain, as that is where moisture penetrates fastest. Let each coat dry properly before applying the next. Once dry, the worktop is food-safe.

Touching up scratches and wear

Scratches on a worktop are caused by tools, pans or boxes sliding across it. Lightly sand the damaged spot and apply a new thin coat of TopOil. On a worktop that has already been treated, apply no more than one renovation coat. Read more in touching up locally with Osmo.

Colour and sheen

Choose 3028 satin matt or 3058 matt for a clear finish. On dark and tropical wood species, 3028 is often the better choice, as 3058 can leave a greyish haze there. 3068 Natural keeps light wood species light. Always test on an offcut first.

Maintenance
