Afrikulu outdoors

Finish afrikulu outdoors with Osmo Terras-Olie on terraces and decking, and with Osmo UV-Beschermingsolie on vertical wood such as a facade or fence. Afrikulu is mainly used as decking timber, as an alternative to traditional tropical hardwood. Without protection it turns grey under the influence of sun and rain.

Terras-Olie for the terrace

Terras-Olie protects wooden terraces against water and dirt. The pigmented versions also protect against UV light and so slow down greying. Choose a colour that suits the wood, for example 006 Bankirai licht or 016 Bankirai donker. The colours are named after the wood species they resemble, but you can use them on any wood species. Always test with a sample first.

Extra grip

A terrace can become slippery after rain. In that case, apply Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a third coat over two coats of Terras-Olie. Antislip on its own does not protect enough against moisture and cannot be applied to bare wood. You can read more about the build-up in decking oil.

Vertical wood

For an afrikulu facade, fence or pergola, choose UV-Beschermingsolie, in two coats. It is made for vertical wood and not for terraces. Also take a look at facade cladding.

Preparation and maintenance

Let new hardwood weather for at least six weeks before treating it. Clean the terrace periodically with Terrasreiniger in the mop water and brush along the grain. Never use a pressure washer, because it damages the softer parts of the wood. If the wood has turned grey anyway, first remove the grey with Power-Gel and then apply a new thin coat of Terras-Olie.
