Oil for cumaru outdoors
Finish cumaru outdoors with Osmo Terras-Olie. Cumaru is a very hard, dense hardwood with a reddish-brown to yellowish-brown colour, widely used for terraces and decking. The wood naturally contains oil, so clean the surface thoroughly beforehand to make sure a new coat adheres well.
Terras-Olie in the right shade
Terras-Olie protects against water and dirt. The pigmented versions also protect against UV light and slow down greying, so the warm colour lasts longer. Shades such as 014 Massaranduba or 016 Bankirai donker suit cumaru. The colours are named after the wood species they resemble, but you can use them on any wood. Always test with a sample first.
Apply thinly
Because cumaru is so dense, it absorbs very little oil. Apply thin coats and wipe away excess oil after a few minutes with a cloth. This prevents sticky patches that hold on to dirt. For grip, apply Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a third coat over two coats of Terras-Olie; never directly on bare wood.
Preparation
Let new wood weather for at least six weeks. If cumaru has already turned grey, first remove the greying with Power-Gel. Read more about hardwood in hardwood oil. One litre of Terras-Olie covers about 24 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, as cloths soaked in oil can self-ignite.
Maintenance
Clean the terrace regularly with Terrasreiniger and brush along the grain. Never use a pressure washer, as it damages the wood. When renovating, apply no more than one thin coat. Also see terrace, ipe outdoors and garapa outdoors.
