Oil, stain and paint for a wooden carport
Finish a wooden carport with Osmo UV-Beschermingsolie, Natuurlijke Olie-Beits or, for an opaque colour, Landhuisverf. A carport usually stands without a foundation with drainage, so the base of the posts has to cope with a lot of moisture. In addition, the posts and fascia boards catch the full sun.
UV-Beschermingsolie for posts
UV-Beschermingsolie is made for vertical wood and gives 12 times more protection against UV light than untreated wood. Apply two coats: one coat with colour followed by a coat of 420 clear, or two coats of 420. The oil is not suitable for horizontal beams; for those, choose Natuurlijke Olie-Beits, which is suitable for all exterior wood.
Opaque with Landhuisverf
If you want the carport in the same colour as your house or shed, choose Landhuisverf. It is an opaque oil-based paint for carports, garden sheds and fences, among other things. The wood structure stays visible, the paint does not flake and you can touch it up without sanding. Also take a look at shed and canopy.
The base of the posts
Give the bottom of the posts and the end grain extra attention. Preferably do not set posts directly in the ground but on a post base, so the wood can dry. Let impregnated wood dry out thoroughly first before you treat it. One litre of Landhuisverf or Natuurlijke Olie-Beits covers about 26 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, because cloths with oil on them can catch fire spontaneously.
Maintenance
Check the base of the posts and the sunny side every year. Clean with Terrasreiniger and never use a pressure washer. Remove the grey from weathered wood first with Power-Gel.
