Terras-Olie for a wooden terrace
Finish a wooden terrace with Osmo Terras-Olie, and where it can become slippery with Osmo Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a top coat. A terrace lies flat, dries more slowly after rain than a facade and is walked on every day. That is why it needs an oil that penetrates deeply, repels water and lets the wood breathe.
Terras-Olie in two coats
Terras-Olie is made for wooden terraces, decking and garden furniture and protects against water and dirt. The pigmented versions also protect against UV light and slow down greying. The colours are named after the wood species they resemble, such as 006 Bankirai licht or 014 Massaranduba, but you can use them on any wood species. Apply two thin coats and always test a colour with a sample first. For your wood species, also take a look at bankirai or ipe.
Antislip as a third coat
If your terrace becomes slippery in the rain or lies in the shade, apply Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a third coat, over two coats of Terras-Olie. Antislip never goes directly on bare wood, because on its own it does not protect enough against moisture. For steps, take a look at outdoor stairs.
Preparation
Let new wood weather for at least six weeks, and make sure it is clean and dry before you start. Then apply two thin coats of Terras-Olie. One litre of Terras-Olie covers about 24 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, because cloths with oil on them can catch fire spontaneously.
Maintenance
Clean the terrace periodically with Terrasreiniger in the mop water and brush along the grain. Never use a pressure washer, because it damages the wood fibres. If the wood has already turned grey, first remove the grey with Power-Gel. When renovating, apply no more than one thin coat of Terras-Olie. Read more in cleaning wooden decking.
