Paint, stain and oil for a wooden fence
Finish a wooden fence with Osmo Landhuisverf, Natuurlijke Olie-Beits or UV-Beschermingsolie. A fence is exposed to sun and rain on both sides, so always treat the back too, not just the side you see from the garden. Which product you choose depends on the look you want: opaque, semi-opaque or transparent.
Opaque with Landhuisverf
Landhuisverf is an opaque oil-based paint for fences, sheds and carports. The wood grain remains visible and the paint does not flake or crack. You can touch it up without sanding, over the old coat. There are 21 colours, which you can also mix.
Stain or oil
Natuurlijke Olie-Beits is a primer and top coat in one and suitable for all exterior wood; apply two coats. Pigmented colours protect against UV, the clear 701 does not. If you want to see the natural colour of the wood, UV-Beschermingsolie is an option: a coloured coat followed by a coat of 420 clear. For an even grey look, there is Vergrijzingsbeits. Whichever product you choose, treat both sides of the fence.
Preparation
Let new wood weather for at least six weeks, then clean it and let it dry. Rough-sawn wood absorbs more product than planed wood. Always test a colour with a sample first. One litre of Landhuisverf or Natuurlijke Olie-Beits covers about 26 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, as cloths soaked in oil can self-ignite.
Maintenance
Clean the fence with Terrasreiniger, which also removes green deposits, and never use a pressure washer. First remove the greying from greyed wood with Power-Gel. For your wood species, also see pine, spruce or Douglas Fir, and for the posts, see post.
