Oil for bankirai outdoors
Finish bankirai outdoors with Osmo Terras-Olie and, on a terrace that can become slippery, with Osmo Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a top coat. Bankirai is widely used for decking boards because it has a long service life, especially when the wood is treated. Without maintenance, bankirai turns grey within a single season.
The right colour of Terras-Olie
Terras-Olie protects against water and dirt. The pigmented versions also protect against UV light and keep the brown colour for longer. The colours 006 Bankirai licht and 016 Bankirai donker resemble the natural colour of bankirai. The clear 007 Teakolie contains no pigment and offers no UV protection. A clear top coat makes the colour slightly less intense. Always test with a sample first.
Anti-slip as a third coat
Terras-Olie can become slippery after contact with water. So on a terrace or outdoor stairs, apply Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a third coat, over two coats of Terras-Olie. Antislip cannot be applied to bare wood and on its own does not provide sufficient protection against moisture. Read more in bankirai oil.
New or greyed wood
Let new bankirai weather for at least six weeks and then remove the greying. If the wood is already grey, first treat it with Power-Gel. It removes the grey layer and green deposits and does not drip, so it also works on a fence or garden furniture. One litre of Terras-Olie covers about 24 m² per coat.
Maintenance
Clean the terrace regularly with Terrasreiniger in the mopping water and brush along the grain. Never use a pressure washer. When renovating, apply no more than one thin coat of Terras-Olie. Also see terrace and garden furniture.
