Oil for garapa outdoors
Finish garapa outdoors with Osmo Terras-Olie, for example in the colour 013 Garapa. Garapa is a hard, dense hardwood with a golden-yellow colour, widely used for terraces and decking. Without protection, it turns grey under the influence of sun and rain.
Terras-Olie 013 Garapa
Terras-Olie protects against water and dirt. The pigmented versions also protect against UV light, so the golden-yellow colour lasts longer. The colour 013 Garapa resembles the golden-yellow shade of garapa, but you can also choose another colour; the colours are named after the wood species they resemble. A clear top coat makes the colour slightly less intense. Always test with a sample first.
Two thin coats
Because of its high density, garapa absorbs oil slowly. So apply thin coats and wipe away excess oil after a few minutes. A second thin coat gives the best result. For extra grip on a terrace or stairs, apply Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a third coat; it cannot be applied to bare wood.
Preparation
Let new garapa weather for at least six weeks and then remove the greying. Treat greyed wood first with Power-Gel. Read more in decking oil. One litre of Terras-Olie covers about 24 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, as cloths soaked in oil can self-ignite.
Maintenance
Clean the terrace regularly with Terrasreiniger in the mopping water and brush along the grain. Never use a pressure washer. When renovating, apply no more than one thin coat. Also see terrace, cumaru outdoors and bankirai outdoors.
