Oil for itauba outdoors
Finish itauba outdoors with Osmo Terras-Olie on terraces and decking, and with Osmo UV-Beschermingsolie on facades and other vertical wood. Itauba is an olive-brown hardwood that naturally resists moisture fairly well. Here, an oil is mainly about preserving the colour.
Terrace and decking
For horizontal itauba, choose Terras-Olie. The pigmented versions protect against UV light and slow down greying; a shade such as 016 Bankirai donker suits the olive-brown wood. The colours are named after the wood species they resemble; always test with a sample first. For grip, apply Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a third coat. Also see terrace.
Facade and vertical wood
For an itauba facade or fence, choose UV-Beschermingsolie, in two coats: first a coloured coat and then a coat of 420 clear, or two coats of 420. This oil is made for vertical wood and is not suitable for terraces. Also see facade cladding.
Preparation
Let new itauba weather for at least six weeks. Because the wood naturally contains oil, clean it thoroughly beforehand so that a new coat adheres well. First remove the greying from greyed wood with Power-Gel. Apply thin coats and wipe away excess oil. One litre of Terras-Olie covers about 24 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, as cloths soaked in oil can self-ignite.
Maintenance
Clean treated wood with Terrasreiniger and never use a pressure washer. When renovating, apply no more than one thin coat. Read more about hardwood in hardwood oil and in treating hardwood against greying.
