Paint, oil and stain for spruce outdoors
Finish spruce outdoors with Osmo Landhuisverf, Natuurlijke Olie-Beits or UV-Beschermingsolie. Outdoors, spruce is usually preservative treated, but it remains sensitive to moisture at damaged edges and sawn edges. A good finish protects those vulnerable spots and gives the wood the colour you want.
Opaque with Landhuisverf
Landhuisverf is an opaque oil-based paint for fences, garden sheds, window frames and carports. The wood structure stays visible and the paint does not flake or crack. You can touch it up without sanding, over the old coat. There are 21 colours, which you can also mix. Also take a look at fence and shed.
Transparent with stain or oil
Natuurlijke Olie-Beits is a primer and top coat in one and suitable for all exterior wood; apply two coats. For a grey look there is, for example, 906 Parelgrijs. On vertical wood you can also use UV-Beschermingsolie, with 424 Spar as the colour coat, which keeps spruce light in colour, followed by a coat of 420 clear.
Preparation
Let new wood weather for at least six weeks and then clean it. Give sawn edges and end grain extra attention. Rough wood absorbs more product than planed wood. Always test a colour with a sample first. One litre of Landhuisverf or Natuurlijke Olie-Beits covers about 26 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, because cloths with oil on them can catch fire spontaneously.
Maintenance
Clean a fence with Terrasreiniger and never use a pressure washer. Remove the grey from weathered wood first with Power-Gel. For spruce indoors, take a look at spruce indoors, and for a similar wood species at pine outdoors. If you deliberately want a silver-grey look, Vergrijzingsbeits gives an even grey colour straight away.
