Afzelia outdoors

Finish afzelia outdoors with Osmo Terras-Olie on terraces, stairs and garden furniture, and with Osmo UV-Beschermingsolie on window frames, doors and facades. Afzelia is a heavy, durable hardwood with a golden brown to reddish brown colour. A well-penetrating oil retains that colour for longer and limits the release of tannins when wet.

Terras-Olie for horizontal wood

For an afzelia terrace or garden bench, choose Terras-Olie. The pigmented versions protect against UV light and slow down greying; a warm tone such as 016 Bankirai donker or 014 Massaranduba suits reddish brown wood well. Always test a colour with a sample first. For extra grip on a terrace or outdoor stairs, apply Antislip Terras-Olie 430 as a third coat.

UV-Beschermingsolie for vertical wood

Treat window frames, doors and facade cladding with UV-Beschermingsolie, in two coats. This oil is made for vertical wood and is not suitable for terraces, as standing water can make the layer crack. Also see window frame.

Preparation

Let new afzelia weather for at least six weeks and then clean it. First remove the grey from weathered wood with Power-Gel. Apply thin coats, as dense hardwood absorbs only a little oil. Read more in hardwood oil. One litre of Terras-Olie covers about 24 m² per coat. Rinse used cloths with water afterwards, as oily cloths can self-ignite.

Maintenance

Clean a terrace periodically with Terrasreiniger and never use a pressure washer. When renovating, apply no more than one thin coat. For terraces, also see terrace. If you deliberately want a silver-grey look, Vergrijzingsbeits gives an even grey colour straight away.
